Susan Hytken Metcalf

Susan Hytken Metcalf, associate concertmaster of the GSO, has been with the orchestra since 1993 and enjoys a distinguished and varied career as soloist, chamber musician, orchestral violinist, and teacher. A native of Eureka, California, she now resides in Jackson Heights, Queens.

She is in great demand as a freelance violinist throughout the New York metropolitan region, and she appears regularly as a member of the Chamber Players of the Greenwich Symphony.

As concertmaster of the South Shore Symphony in Rockville Centre on Long Island since 1994, she has appeared as soloist on several occasions with that group, performing Dvořák, Mozart, Mendelssohn, Saint-Saëns, and Sarasate. She teaches violin and chamber ensembles at the Spence School in New York City. From 1996 to 2011, Susan spent her summers in Boulder, Colorado, performing with the Colorado Music Festival.

She plays on a violin made by William E. Hill and Sons, London.
